Changes coming to Mackenzie's timber supply area

Some changes have come to the Mackenzie timber supply area.

The Ministry of Forests is now allowing an annual cut of 4.5 million cubic metres.

Deputy Chief Forester Diane Nicholls says this is an increase for the area.

“Primarily, the reason for that is to allow harvesting of large volume of accumulated dead pine in the area,” she says.

Nicholls says this is an increase of 47.5%.

She says this comes after an extensive review of the area.
