UNBC honours women killed in Montreal massacre

Universities across Canada are taking time to remember 14 women killed in Montreal nearly 25 years ago.

December 6th marks the 25th anniversary of the massacre at Ecole Polytechnique. Sarah Boyd, Co-ordinator at the Northern Women’s Centre at UNBC is organizing Tuesday’s memorial.

“Every year since then, we have held a memorial and we will continue to do so,” she says. “I think it’s important that all post-secondary institutions recognize the day.”

“It was an event that sadly happened on a Canadian campus, it could have happened at any campus,” she says.

She says the campus has a number of services for women.

“We have a wellness centre, and a counseling centre, and the women’s centre as well, where people can obtain assistance and help there, or referral onto other organizations in the community” she says.
