A yearly milestone has been reached for the Elder Citizens Recreation Centre.
It has now reached 1,010 members who use the services provided like activities and nutritious meals. The meals may be the most important part, according to Board of Directors President Judy Griffith.
“Seniors who have lost a spouse, it’s hard for them to carry on and it’s hard to then go from cooking for two to cooking for one. Plus they’ve lost their best friend so that’s very, very difficult.”
Griffith adds affordable housing continues to hinder local seniors.
“Not a lot of seniors have a lot of money. So to find affordable housing, I think, is probably a big issue since so many of our seniors are staying here now.”
Griffith says their goal continues to be taking care of their members.
