Northern Lights winery goes back to its roots, purchases Hobby Brews

The Northern Lights Estate Winery in Prince George now own Hobby Brews.

Hobby Brews has been in operation under former owner and founder Jim Currie for the past 35 years who decided it was time to retire.

Winery Owner, Pat Bell is excited about the new acquisition.

“In many ways, it takes us back to our roots. This is where we learned to make wine some 10 years ago, we think it has a tremendous opportunity in front of us with the business and we’re really excited to be part of it.”

With the purchase, Bell believes the winery has come full circle.

“For Northern Lights, many of the recipes that we originally developed came from Hobby Brews. In some ways, we’ll actually be reversing that technique and using some of those recipes back over in Hobby Brews and we think we can improve the quality of wine that’s being produced there.”

Bell says they hope to update the business and bring it into the modern age for the best available winemaking.
