Operation Red Nose experiencing lower than normal volunteer numbers ahead of 2018 campaign

Operation Red Nose in Prince George begins its 21st season in less than three weeks and desperately need volunteers.

Over 300 people are needed for the holiday rush including New Year’s Eve but so far only 45 applications have been put through.

The 2018 campaign is being launched tonight during the Prince George Spruce Kings game against the Langley Rivermen and Spokesperson Andrea Johnson says anyone who attends can sign up.

“If people are interested they can sign up online and we’ll have a computer there as well, we just want to promote the campaign, tell people they still have time to volunteer.”

The 2018 campaign kicks off on November 30th and Johnson blames some technical glitches as to why the local volunteer numbers are lower than they should be.

“Forty-five is obviously lower than what we should be at this time of year and we do realize there have been some glitches with our website but we just ask people to be patient and if they really are still having issues they can give Karen at T & S Communications a call and she’ll help you out.”

The facility is located at 2276 Nicholson Street.

The designated driver service also has a strong relationship with the Junior A hockey club spanning many years.

“The Spruce Kings have been avid supporters of ours for years and we just thought it would be great to give them some love back and show our support for them. We have supported them over the years by sponsoring various youth at their kids summer school.”

Operation Red Nose in Prince George will be giving safe rides home for any party-goers on November 30th to December 22nd and then again on New Year’s Eve.

Last year, 838 safe rides home were provided in PG.
