Spruce Kings split in Chilliwack

It might not have been the outcome they wanted but the Prince George Spruce Kings continue to nip at the heels of the Chilliwack Chiefs.

After a heartbreaking 3-2 shootout loss on Friday, the Spruce Kings came back with a vengeance during the back half of the double header with a 6-3 victory on Saturday against the Chiefs.

Prince George held leads of 2-0 and 4-1 after the first 40 minutes despite being tied on the shot clock 30-30.

Dustin Manz was the star of the game with two goals and an assist while Ben Poisson, Nolan Welsh, Ben Brar and Sean Donaldson also lit the lamp for the Spruce Kings.

Logan Neaton made 27 saves in the victory for Prince George who is now a point back of the Mainland Division lead heading into Wednesday’s home game against the Merritt Centennials (7PM from RMCA).

The Spruce Kings still have a game in hand on the Chiefs.

Manz also scored during Friday’s loss while Nic Poisson scored the other goal.
