It was a sea of pink at schools across the city and the region.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Prince George, alongside with School District 57, celebrated Pink Shirt Day – a nationwide anti-bullying campaign.
Now in their sixth year of coordinating the event in Prince George, the organization set out with a $20,000 fundraising goal for the day through the sale of pink shirts.
A number of local businesses also got in on the fundraising for the event with the revenue going towards mentoring programs through Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Chair of School District 57 and Executive Chair of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Prince George, Tim Bennett said, “Big Brothers Big Sisters got involved because we understand mentoring is a proven solution to bullying.”
Pink Shirt Day initially started back in 2007Â when two Nova Scotia high school students took action when a fellow student was being bullied for wearing a pink shirt. They went out and bought pink shirts to give to fellow students to show their support and effort in fighting against bullying.
