Gas prices could rise by Friday in the Northern Capital

Prince George drivers will be digging deeper into their wallets when they fill up at the pumps.

Prices are currently at 108.9 cents a litre at most stations but could rise by as much as eight cents as early as Friday.

“When you’re busy selling gasoline for 108.9 you’re actually getting gasoline cheaper than what it costs the gas stations. We are still dealing with the last few weeks of winter-blended gasoline and it looks like refineries are discounting or trying to rush that out the door before the switchover takes place,” Senior Petroleum Analyst with Gasbuddy.com, Dan McTeague told My PG Now.

“There is no doubt that there is probably going to be a significant bounce in prices, probably eights cents a litre. It would be a pretty good idea to go out and buy fuel, this is about three to four cents below cost and customers should take advantage of this while they can because I suspect by this Friday we’re going to see prices move up to the dollar fifteen range probably as a minimum.”

McTeague adds a lot of markets across Western Canada are tied to one thing when it comes to fuel prices.

“Demand has a lot to do with this, US pricing, whether we happen to be in Prince George or we happen to be in Kelowna, Edmonton, Winnipeg or Regina it really doesn’t matter where you are in Western Canada, we are linked to the hip of the Chicago stock market for gasoline.”

Costco remains the cheapest place to fuel up at 107.9.

In April, prices are expected to inflate closer to the $1.20 range as the shift to summer gasoline is right around the corner.
