A plea to re-open the Veteran’s Affairs office in Prince George was made at last night’s city council meeting.
Representatives from the Prince George Legion asked for council’s support in getting an office opened in the city.
Service Officer John Scott says they are trying to keep awareness up to get an office reopened.
“And we’ve had at least one person die,” says Scott, “and I’ll tell you we were pretty close on another, so we’ve got to do something before we start losing people.”
Scott says currently veterans have to go through Service Canada and sometimes they need a more private, personal method to get their questions answered.
The Veterans Affairs Office closed in 2013.
Council has agreed to send a letter of support on behalf of veterans to Ottawa.
