Theatre NorthWest announces concert series; Geoff Berner to kick off

Theatre Northwest is embarking on a new project this coming fall.

In partnership with Mad Loon Entertainment, the venue is putting on a Saturday-night concert series that will be getting underway in October.

The partnership between the two companies came about when Danny Bell, from Mad Loon, met Theatre NorthWest’s Executive Director, Marnie Hamagami, when he was performing as the drummer in Million Dollar Quartet at TNW last December.

“He approached us to see if we’d be interested in a concert series, and for us, that is such a great fit,” Hamagami told MyPGNow. “There are times during the year when Theatre NorthWest is not putting on productions and doing plays, and so the space is empty. We want to fill it up, we want people here, we want the space being used.”

“We are always excited to open our space to local performing organizations, artist, and groups,” said Hamagami, the Executive Director of Theatre Northwest. “We want our space to be vibrant and a place where the community can enjoy all kinds of art.”

Bell has been producing concerts at the Prince George Legion for the last four years.

“I am excited to work with Theatre NorthWest, to offer more intimate and family-friendly concerts in our community. It’s a great room, and I think it will be a special experience for both musicians and the audience.”

As of right now, the only concert confirmed will be Canadian accordion, singer-songwriter, and novelist Geoff Berner on Saturday, October 12.

Bell said he’s worked with Berner before and felt that was a good place to start as a way to kick off the concert series.

The Vancouver-based artist’s latest album, “Canadiana Gortesquica” reached No. 1 on Canada’s Folk/Roots/Blues Radio Charts.

The concert series will get underway with Berner’s performance on October 12. Tickets are available at Theatre NorthWest’s website.
