Sawmill safety is apparently on track since a Worksafe review last year.
According to Vice President of Prevention services Al Johnson, Gord Macatee’s 43 recommendations from July of 2014 have resonated with Sawmill operators:
“We’re seeing a compliance rate of 90% plus, where theses mills are actively on a daily basis inspecting for wood dust, managing the wood dust, it seems to be incorporated”
Johnson says of 43 recommendations laid out by Macatee’s report, 23 are already in place while 8 are on track for completion and another 12 are in the midst of legislative processes.
