Efforts to improve the quality of critical care are underway within Northern Health.
The health authority is focusing on how to ease the transition process from one level of care to another.
CEO Cathy Ulrich says the focus of the work is on a medical condition know as sepsis.
“Which is a serious condition, that can evolve if people are seriously ill and life threatening,” says Ulrich, “and there are some very specific things we can do to prevent that and that is one area of focus.”

Ulrich says they are also trying to train their staff on how Advanced Life Support Education.
She says this is so they teach people in the North and they don’t have to travel to get this type of training.
