School District forced to make cuts

School District 57 has been forced to make some tough calls when it comes to saving money.
The province has told school districts to submit $1.3 million in administrative savings for this school year and the next.
For Prince George schools, this means a loss of just under $700,000 in surplus savings next year.
“It was a very difficult process because we were already looking at a a structural deficit in the district,” says trustee Brenda Hooker, “It created part of the shortfall we were already trying to address.  When we started the budget process we were looking at $3.3 million that we had to try and cover.”
The savings include $210,000 in staffing cuts, and $125,000 in service and supplies.
