Sprinkler ban in effect

The city of Prince George is implementing a sprinkler ban to conserve water.

The measure is in response to low water levels in several reservoirs and will be in effect until further notice.

Public works director Gina Layte Liston says yesterday evening irrigation was maxing out several pumps within the city.

“One of our pump stations was having to pump 4.5 million litres of water an hour from the time of 5-10pm. That is almost 5 times the normal usage during that time period.”

Liston says the maxed out pumps hamper the city’s ability to supply water to firefighters.

The city will also limit water use in parks, including the closure of the water park at Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park.

The ban does not restrict the use of hand watering tools, such as watering cans.
