‘Give a little, Get a Lot’ has memorable start

Prince George is getting into the holiday spirit with the Northern Sport Centre’s Give a Little, get a lot campaign!

An extra special year started with a bang, thanks to Surjit Minhas.

“I used to donate blood 2 to 3 times a year, but then they closed it up. I must have donated 68 times before it all closed down.”

He decided to donate $500 to the NSC’s campaign.

The NSC and Save-On Foods decided to match the donation with local drywaller Shawn Stewart chipping in a cool $1000.

“We cannot help everyone in the world, but everyone can help someone,” added Minhas.

This afternoon, the group met up at the Parkland Save on Foods to stock up on non-perishables and sanitary items for the campaign.

“I think when a lot of people are doing these things, food and non-perishable food items are the first things that come to mind. But sanitary items are always needed by underprivileged individuals,” noted UNBC Communications Officer Scott McWalter.

Diapers and baby food were the most sorely needed items, according to the Salvation Army.

Encouraging the public to get involved, the NSC will give people a free day pass in exchange for two non-perishable items for the length of the campaign.

The items will be distributed at the Salvation Army, NUGSS Food Bank, and the UNBC Women’s Shelter.
