Spruce Kings not looking past Oakville in semi-final

If you thought the Prince George Spruce Kings would overlook the Oakville Blades, think again.

The Doyle Cup champions face off against the Ontario representative today at 6pm during the second semi-final at the National Junior A Championship from Brooks, Alberta.

Despite beating the Blades 5-1 last Sunday to kick off the round robin, Spruce Kings defenceman Dylan Anhorn told MYPGNOW Oakville does pose a bit of challenge as they have lit the lamp 12 times in their last two outings with both contests ending up as wins.

“They are a good, quick team and you can’t take them lightly and we’re going to have to have a good start against them because we came out a little slow against them last time and that will be the key to success for us.”

Spruce Kings forward Nick Poisson echoes the sentiment of his teammate as he believes sticking to the system will be crucial if they want to reach Sunday’s final.

“We need to just play our game. We need to rise our game up to the level that were capable of and we know that we shouldn’t fall to their level. If we play the way we know how we are the better team.”

The Brooks Bandits host the Ottawa Junior Senators in the early semi-final at 1pm.

Sunday’s final is slated for 2pm at the CRA.
