While Prince George celebrated Canada Day at the Lheidl T’enneh Memorial Park, bylaw officers were ticketing cars parked illegally.
From 9:30 in the morning to 6:00 pm, 33 tickets were given out around the park for a variety of infractions including parking in handicapped stalls, obstructing people’s driveways and obstructing traffic control signs.
“We started doing it because of the issues parking was causing at the park during Canada Day,” said Bylaw Officer Fred Crittenden.
“Obviously there is street parking in and around the park, but you know, people still have to respect private driveways, the other roadways, and normal traffic rules.”
“Just because it was Canada Day does not mean the laws do not apply.”
Tickets cost anywhere from $50.00 – $100.00. Parking too close to a driveway or blocking an alleyway would run you $50.00 while taking up a handicapped stall would ring in at $100.00.
“I think people need to be prepared to walk further distance, obey the traffic laws, or use alternative modes of transportation,” added Crittenden.
