Victoria Street problem property has new owner

A notorious property on Victoria Street may soon have a new development.

Last June, the City ordered the owner of the former Willow Inn, at 1656 Victoria, to demolish the building on the property due to consistent problems including fires, break-ins, and property damage.

“It’s sat vacant with debris, people have entered illegally to squat in it, there have been broken windows,” said Fred Crittenden, Manager of Bylaw Services.

The due date for demolition was July 26th, unless the property was sold, in which case the deadline would be reestablished.

“There are new owners taking possession of the property, in the next week or so. They have plans once they take possession to start the permit process to have the site cleared and then a new development will be going on that site,” said Crittenden.

The bylaw manager said he is not yet at liberty to disclose who has purchased the property but is optimistic about what they are planning.

“I think from everything we have heard, the new owners have plans for the site and it will be good for the neighbourhood and the City of Prince George.”
