After going 0-4-1 in the pre-season, the PG Cougars open their regular season with a home double against the defending Western Conference champion Vancouver Giants Friday and Saturday.

The Vancouver Canucks split-squad will play the Calgary Flames split-squad tonight with one game in Calgary and the other in Victoria.
The Canucks will host the Edmonton Oilers in an exhibition game Tuesday at Rogers Arena.

According to his agent, Toronto Maple Leafs sniper Mitch Marner received a couple of offer sheets from NHL teams while he was a restricted free agent.
Agent Darren Ferris says Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas was aware of the offers although which teams were involved have not been disclosed.
Marner and the Leafs agreed to a six-year contract with an average annual value of $10.893 million.

The Boston Bruins have signed defenceman Charlie McAvoy to a three-year deal worth $4.9 million per season.

Hannah Emmond’s bicycle kick goal off of a corner kick in the second half wasn’t enough for the Lady Timberwolves.
The (2-1-1) UNBC women’s soccer team will host the (0-2-2) Lethbridge Pronghorns Friday night at 6:00 and the (0-4) Mount Royal Cougars Sunday at noon at Masich Place Stadium.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will have surgery on his right elbow and miss the remainder of the season.
Roethlisberger was injured in the second quarter of Sunday’s 28-26 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees is expected to undergo thumb surgery that could sideline him about six weeks.
Brees suffered the injury in the 27-9 loss against the LA Rams.

Calgary Stampeders 19 Hamilton Tiger-Cats 18 (Saturday)
Tre Roberson blocked a 42-yard field goal attempt by Lirim Hajrullahu with 32 seconds left in the game to preserve the narrow win for the Stampeders.
Saskatchewan Roughriders 27 Montreal Alouettes 25 (Saturday)
Brett Lauther kicked a 39-yard field goal with 25 seconds remaining to lift Saskatchewan to victory.
BC Lions 29 Ottawa REDBLACKS 5 (Friday)
The (2-10) Lions ended their seven-game losing skid by posting their first home win of the season.
The same teams meet again Saturday (4 pm PT) in Ottawa.
The (3-9) RedBlacks have lost five in a row.
