WHL: (PG Cougars)

Vancouver Giants  4  Prince George Cougars  1

The Vancouver Giants swept the opening weekend doubleheader against the Prince George Cougars.

Prince George allowed three goals in the first eight minutes of the game.

Mitch Kohner scored the Cougars’ only goal, his first career WHL goal, late in the first period.

Up next for the Cougars will be a road trip to Victoria to face the Royals in a back-to-back series next weekend.

BCHL: (PG Spruce Kings)

Prince George Spruce Kings  2  Langley Rivermen  1

Chong Min Lee lifted the Kings to victory with just 29 seconds remaining in the third period.

Langley opened the scoring in the second-period byway of Joseph Musa, however, the third period was owned by the Prince George as Finlay Williams came up with the equalizer.

Prince George will wrap up their weekend schedule with a visit to Coquitlam to face the Mainland Division-leading Express.

BC Major Midget League: (Cariboo Cougars)

The Major Midget Cougars lost 4-3 in overtime to the Thompson Blazers yesterday.

The Cougars raised their 2019 playoff championship banner just prior to the game.

Both teams will square off today at 10:30 a.m. at Kin 1.

Canada West Women’s Soccer:

The UNBC Timberwolves women’s soccer team will host the (0-5) Mount Royal Cougars today at noon at Masich Place Stadium.

Canada West Men’s Soccer:

Alberta Golden Bears  3  UNBC Timberwolves  2

Despite entering the half with a 2-1 lead, the Timberwolves were unable to put the cap on the victory as the Golden Bears surged back to take just their second win of the season.

The (3-4-1) UNBC men’s soccer team will wrap up their weekend road schedule with a match against the (1-4-2) MacEwan Griffins this afternoon.

CFL:

BC Lions  40  Ottawa REDBLACKS  7

Mike Reilly threw for 353 yards and two touchdowns as the BC Lions routed the REDBLACKS on Saturday.

Reilly became the only quarterback in the CFL to start every game for his team this season and led the Lions (3-10) to their second consecutive blowout win over the Redblacks (3-10) having won 29-5 last week in Vancouver.

Montreal Alouettes  38  Winnipeg Blue Bombers  37

A dramatic touchdown from Vernon Adams Jr. to Jake Wieneke with six seconds on the clock gave the Montreal Alouettes an improbable come-from-behind victory over the Bombers.

NFL
:

There are 14 NFL games today and the home team is favoured in each of them.

Both Dallas (against Miami) and New England (against the NY Jets) are home and favoured by more than 20 points.

Nine NFL teams are 2-0. They are New England, Buffalo, Baltimore and Kansas City in the AFC plus Dallas, Green Bay, Seattle, San Francisco and the LA Rams in the NFC.

Detroit is unbeaten at 1-0-1.

The eight teams sitting 0-2 are Miami, NY Jets, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, and Denver in the AFC plus the New York Giants, Washington and Carolina in the NFC.

New York Yankees  7  Toronto Blue Jays  2

The (63-92) Jays had their win streak come to an end after winning their previous five games.

Toronto fell victim to James Paxton’s 10th straight win.

Giancarlo Stanton launched his first homer since missing nearly three months to injury.

The Jays will host Baltimore Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and Tampa Bay on Sept. 27th, 28th and 29th to complete their regular season.
