WHL: (PG Cougars)

Victoria Royals  2  Prince George Cougars  1

Taylor Gauthier made 33 saves for PG but did not get enough offensive support.

The Royals scored midway through the second and early in the third after Matéj Toman gave Prince George a short-lived 1-0 lead.

The (0-3) Cougars and (1-1) Royals play again for a second straight night in Victoria.

The next home games for the Cougars will be on October 4th and 5th against the (1-0-1) Kelowna Rockets.

BCHL: (PG Spruce Kings)

Prince George Spruce Kings  8  Alberni Valley Bulldogs  2

Nicholas Poisson scored twice & added two assists, Chong Min Lee set up four goals & Brendan Hill (2 +1) and Corey Cunningham (1 + 2) notched three points before 844 fans at the RMCA.

The (3-3-2) Spruce Kings host the (2-5-1) Trail Smoke Eaters tonight at 7:00.

Midget Hockey:

The Cariboo Minor Midget Cougars have their home openers this weekend at Kin 2.

They host the Okanagan Rockets tonight at 6:00 and Sunday morning at 11:00.

 

NHL:

The Winnipeg Jets and restricted free agent Patrik Laine have agreed to a two-year, $13.5 million contract.

The Vancouver Canucks open their regular season on Wednesday in Edmonton.

The (6-1-1) Thunderbirds and the (4-5-1) Timberwolves play again Sunday at noon at Masich Place Stadium.

The (3-1-2) UNBC Timberwolves women’s soccer team visits (0-6) UBC Okanagan Heat this afternoon at 1:00 in Kelowna and the (1-4-1) TRU WolfPack Sunday at noon in Kamloops.

CFL: (Week 16)

Hamilton Tiger-Cats  33  Winnipeg Blue Bombers  13

Dane Evans threw for 359 yards and three touchdowns for the (11-3) Tiger-Cats who have the best record in the league. (The Blue Bombers slip to 9-5)

The (3-10) BC Lions host the (7-5) Montreal Alouettes tonight at 7:00.

Als QB Matt Shiltz will replace Vernon Adams Jr. who will serve a one-game suspension.

The two other CFL games today have (6-7) Edmonton at (3-10) Ottawa (1:00 PT) and (8-4) Saskatchewan at (2-10) Toronto (4:00 PT).

NFL: (Week 4)

There are 13 NFL games on Sunday including New England at Buffalo, Seattle at Arizona and in the night game, Dallas at New Orleans.

The New York Jets and San Francisco are the first teams this season to get a bye.

There are seven unbeaten teams left.

New England, Buffalo and Kansas City in the AFC, plus Dallas, LA Rams and San Francisco in the NFC are all 3-0.

Detroit is 2-0-1.

There are also seven winless teams in the league.

Sitting at 0-3 are Miami, NY Jets, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, and Denver in the AFC and Washington in the NFC.

Arizona is 0-2-1.

MLB:

Tampa Bay Rays  6  Toronto Blue Jays  2

With the Cleveland Indians 8-2 loss to Washington, both Tampa and the Oakland A’s clinch the two AL wild-card spots.

The (65-95) Jays host Tampa again this afternoon and Sunday to conclude their season.
