Spruce Kings take Bulldogs to the pound

Jackson Glassford suffered from a bad case of sunburn against the Prince George Spruce Kings.

On Friday, the defending Fred Page and Doyle Cup Champs lit up the goaltender as they cruised to a commanding 8-2 victory over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs in front of 844 fans at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.

Brendan Hill and Nicholas Poisson notched a pair past Glassford to give Prince George a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.

The Spruce Kings opened the floodgates in the second with six unanswered goals courtesy of Poisson and Hill along with Tom Richter, Corey Cunningham, Finlay Williams and newly-acquired defenseman Mason Waite.

It was also a banner night for 20-year-old forward Chong Min Lee who compiled four assists.

Poisson also had a four-point night (two goals, two assists) while Cunningham and Hill each notched three points.

Ryan Dooling and Jacob Bosse scored for the Bulldogs who drop to 3-5-0-0 on the season.

Jett Alexander 26 saves on 28 shots for Prince George who improves to 3-3-2.

Glassford allowed eight goals on 25 shots for Alberni Valley in two periods of work before being replaced by Luke Pearson.

The Spruce Kings were without Nolan Welsh, Nick Bochen, Evan Orr, Cole Leal and Andrew Seaman.

Consequently, forward John Herrington and defenceman Matthew Magrath of the Cariboo Cougars were pressed into service for PG.

The Trail Smoke Eaters (2-5-1-0) make their first and only stop to the RMCA tonight at 7pm when they play the Spruce Kings.
