Strong winds have been blowing in Prince George all morning and the Cariboo region is experiencing gusts close to 100km an hour.
Environment Canada spokesperson Doug Lundquist said there is a strong cold front moving through the central interior.
“We have wind warnings out for much of the Cariboo and areas south right now for this strong wind event. We’ve seen winds as high as close to 100 km an hour in Quesnel as it went through,” he told MyPGNow.
He said they are expecting the gusts to decrease in the next several hours (as of 8:30 a.m.), however, they can still cause some damage right now.
“Most people haven’t taken in their lawn furniture or anything that’s outside, it could certainly knock things over, maybe damage a shed or something like that.”
Much of the cold front and wind has passed through Prince George, but Lundquist said there are snowfall warnings for the Bulkley Valley and Mackenzie as well.
“We still have some warnings out for snow in the higher terrain there and the mountain passes,” said Lundquist. “ Be safe and watch out for snow on the highways.”
