WHL: (PG Cougars)

Prince George Cougars  3  Vancouver Giants  2  (OT-Sunday)

Ryan Schoettler scored his second goal of the season at 4:29 of overtime.

First-star Tyler Brennan made 37 saves as the Cougars ended a four-game losing skid.

Reid Perepeluk and Ilijah Colina tallied for PG in the opening period and Vancouver came back with a couple of goals in the second before 3,736 fans in Langley.

The 16-year-old Brennan has a 2.08 goals-against average and a .924 save percentage.

He is now off for the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Medicine Hat.

Cougars starting goalie Taylor Gauthier was not healthy enough to dress against the Giants and is listed as day-to-day.

Tri-City Americans  5  Prince George Cougars  2  (Saturday)

Taylor Gauthier allowed three goals on 13 shots before he left the game with a lower-body injury late in the second period. The last two Tri-City goals came into an empty net.

The (4-9-0-1) Cougars are last in the Western Conference but just two points behind the (5-5-1) Victoria Royals and (4-5-2-1) Seattle Thunderbirds.

Prince George has 11 games in November.

The Cats visit Kelowna Friday and Spokane Saturday before hosting Medicine Hat Nov. 6th and Victoria Nov. 8 and 9.

Cowichan Valley Capitals  6  Prince George Spruce Kings  1  (Sunday)

The Capitals scored two in the first and four more in the second.

The Spruce Kings went 1-2 on their Island road trip.

Chong Min Lee assisted on both goals while Jett Alexander stopped 37 shots for PG.

Powell River Kings  4  Prince George Spruce Kings  1  (Thursday)

The (6-9-2-1) Spruce Kings are 4th in the Mainland Division, a point behind the (8-11) Langley Rivermen and two ahead of the (6-12-0-1) Surrey Eagles.

The Spruce Kings begin their 13-game November schedule by hosting Langley Friday and Saturday.

BC Major Midget League: (Cariboo Cougars in Richmond)

The (8-1-0-1) Major Midget Cougars will host the (11-0-0-1) league-leading Okanagan Rockets Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at Kin 1.

Cariboo is in 4th place in the 11-team BCMML, but just a point behind the (9-3) Vancouver NE Chiefs and the (9-3) Vancouver NW Hawks with the Cats holding two games in hand.

The Cariboo Minor Midget Cougars are 6-2 after a pair of wins against the Greater Vancouver Canadians at Kin 2.

Scores were 6-3 Saturday and 7-3 Sunday as Cariboo ran its win streak to half-a-dozen games.

The Cougars will be in Richmond next weekend for games against the Valley West Giants.

Six points were up for grabs and the Northern Capitals took five of them.

In a B.C. Hockey Female Midget Triple-A League weekend series in Kelowna, the Capitals beat the Thompson Okanagan Lakers 4-1 on Friday and 3-1 on Saturday before the teams skated to a 1-1 tie on Sunday.

The 4-5-1-0 Northern Capitals don’t have another league game until Nov. 22 when they open a three-game series against the host Fraser Valley Rush.

NHL:

Brett Connolly of Prince George picked up two assists for Florida.

Connolly has nine points (4 goals, 5 assists) in 11 games.

The (6-3-1) Vancouver Canucks host the (5-2-4) Panthers tonight at 7:00.

The only other Monday game has Arizona at Buffalo.

A big blow to the Stanley Cup champion St. Louis Blues.

High-scoring forward  Vladimir Tarasenko will be sidelined at least five months after undergoing left shoulder surgery.

Tarasenko has 10 points in 10 games this season.

Evgeni Malkin is back at practice with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

He is hoping to return to the lineup Saturday against Edmonton.

Malkin was injured during the second game of the season.

Canada West Soccer: (UNBC Timberwolves)

The season is over for the UNBC Timberwolves women’s soccer team.

The Timberwolves lost 2-1 on Friday to the Manitoba Bisons in a Canada West play-in game in Calgary.

The Timberwolves ended their season with an overall record of 3-8-4.

MLB: (World Series)

Houston Astros  7  Washington Nationals  1

The Astros lead the World Series 3-2 with the visiting team winning each game.

Houston outscored the Nationals 19-3 in the three games in Washington (4-1, 8-1 and 7-1).

Game six will be played Tuesday night (5:07 PT) in Houston.

Saskatchewan Roughriders  27  Edmonton Eskimos  24  (Saturday)

Brett Lauther nailed a 43-yard field goal with time expired to give Saskatchewan the victory.

The (12-5) Riders can clinch first place in the West Division with a win at home against the Eskimos Saturday (1:00 PT).

Saskatchewan is two points ahead of (11-6) Calgary and (11-7) Winnipeg.

The Stampeders close out the regular season when they visit the (5-12) BC Lions Saturday night at 7:00.

Week 21 starts Friday (4:00 PT) with (9-8) Montreal at (3-14) Ottawa.

Tiger Woods won the Zozo Championship in Japan to tie Sam Snead’s PGA Tour record of 82 victories.

The 43-year-old Woods scored a three-shot victory in the first official PGA Tour event in Japan.
