Cougars address the crease with goalie additions

Jacob Herman has been recalled from the Swift Current Legionnaires and the Prince George Cougars have signed goaltender Carter Woodside to a three-game tryout.

The two moves come after goaltender Taylor Gauthier sustained a lower-body injury last weekend in Tri-City and is listed as day-to-day. Goaltender Tyler Brennan is at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge with Team Canada White.

Herman, who signed with the Cougars last month when Brennan went down with an upper-body injury, has had a great start to his season in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League. The 17-year-old has won eight of his 11 starts, posting a 2.04 goals-against average and is sporting an impressive .930 save percentage. Last season with the Legionnaires, the Swift Current, SK product posted a 15-8-0 record and owned a 2.57 GAA and .900 SV%. He also had two shutouts.

Woodside has been playing for the Princeton Posse in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League this season. Prior to this season, the Asquith, SK product played for the Prince Albert Mintos in the SMHL. Last season, he played in 26 games and owned a 3.50 GAA to go along with a .890 SV%. Woodside was signed by the Regina Pats in August 2018 after being acquired in a trade with the former Kootenay ICE. The ICE drafted the puck-stopper in the sixth-round, 111th overall, in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft.

Both Herman and Woodside are with the Cougars this weekend for a pair of road games against the Kelowna Rockets tonight and the Spokane Chiefs tomorrow.
