Gauthier’s MVP performance leads Cougars to sweep of Seattle

Taylor Gauthier has been the Prince George Cougars most valuable player all season.

The 18-year-old goalie gave another example in Wednesday’s 2-1 shootout victory over the Seattle Thunderbirds before 1,851 fans at CN Centre.

Gauthier made 34 saves including a spectacular highlight-reel glove stop off of Owen Williams with the game on the line in overtime.

The Cougars would eventually win the game after Cole Moberg tallied the winner in the fourth round of the shootout.

It was the first shootout win in five opportunities for Prince George.

Roddy Ross made 24 saves as Seattle outshot Prince George 35-25.

The Cougars finished a six-game homestand with a 4-2 record after completing the sweep of Seattle.

They beat the Thunderbirds 6-4 Tuesday.

Seattle holds the final Western Conference wild-card playoff spot by seven points over P.G. with each team having 19 games left.

The (16-26-3-4) Cougars and (20-23-3-3) Thunderbirds meet again Sunday (on both Feb. 9th and 23rd) in Seattle.

The T-birds leading scorer Andrej Kukuca tallied on a first-period power-play before Ilijah Colina tied it on a second period breakaway.
