Operation Red Nose is a go starting Friday

Operation Red Nose will kick off on Friday for the holiday season.

Every year, the service provides Prince George residents with a safe ride home, while ensuring their vehicle gets home safe as well for a donation that goes towards youth programs in the City.

“Any Friday or Saturday between now and the 21st, plus on New Years Eve, if you find that you’re out and you need to get your car home afterwards, give us a call,” said volunteer Garth Frizzell.

“We’ll send down a crew of three people, two of them will drive your car home with you, the third one will be there to pick up our team to bring them back.”

Dolly Hilton, another volunteer, said they normally have around 100 to 120 volunteers.

“We are always looking for new because of course there’s some that can’t come from last year, so we would welcome any new volunteers to the program,” she said.

“You apply on our website at www.ornpg.ca, and there’s a volunteer form on there that you fill out, take it down to the RCMP station for a criminal record check, and then bring the application to us, then you’re in.”

Frizzell said they gave 412 rides over the holiday season last year, with 74 of them on New Year’s Eve alone.

Those who wish to use the service can call 250-962-RIDE or 250-962-7433.
