WHL: (PG Cougars)

Red Deer Rebels  4  Prince George Cougars  2  (Monday)

The (20-31-2-3) Rebels erased a 2-1 deficit by scoring twice in the final eight minutes of the second period and adding an empty netter in the third before an announced sold-out crowd of 5,971 fans at CN Centre.

It was the fourth consecutive loss for the Cougars, who are nine points behind the Seattle Thunderbirds for the last wild-card playoff spot with just 15 games left (six at home and nine on the road).

Seattle lost 3-2 against Vancouver Monday as the Giants extended their winning streak to 10 games.

The (16-30-3-4) Cougars visit the Everett Silvertips on Friday and Seattle on Sunday.

Calgary Hitmen  4  Prince George Cougars  2  (Saturday)

The Hitmen built up a 4-0 lead by scoring twice in the first 8 minutes of the first period and two more goals in the first two minutes of the second.

 

BCHL: (PG Spruce Kings at the LNG Road Show in Kitimat)

The (18-31-3-4) Spruce Kings host the (45-8-1-1) Coquitlam Express Friday and Saturday to close out the regular season.

Coquitlam has the best record in the BCHL.

The Spruce Kings will finish 15th out of 17 in the overall BCHL standings and will play the Trail Smoke Eaters in the first round of the playoffs.

The (35-16-2-1-1) Smoke Eaters are second in the Interior Division.

BCMML: (Cariboo Cougars at Kin 1)

Cariboo Cougars  6  Kootenay Ice  3  (Sunday)

The Major Midget Cougars extended their winning streak to six games.

Cariboo Cougars  4  Kootenay Ice  2  (Saturday)

The (24-10-1-1) Cougars have four games left on their schedule, all on home ice.

They are in 5th place in the 11-team league.

Cariboo will host the (26-8-0-2) Fraser Valley Thunderbirds at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and 10:30 a.m. on Sunday at Kin 1.

The Cougars also entertain the eighth-place North Island Silvertips on Feb. 29 and March 1.

NHL:

Looking to boost their offence, the Vancouver Canucks have acquired forward Tyler Toffoli from the LA Kings.

In the deal, the Canucks gave up forward Tim Schaller, a second-round pick, forward prospect Tyler Madden and a conditional fourth-round pick.

The 27-year-old Toffoli, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent after the season, has 34 points (18 goals) in 58 games this season.

The Canucks have lost Brock Boeser for eight weeks after initially saying he would be re-evaluated in three weeks.

Boeser (who has 45 points in 56 games) suffered a rib cartilage fracture against Calgary on Feb. 8th.

The (32-22-5)  Canucks are 2-2 on a six-game homestand that continues Wednesday against Minnesota and concludes Saturday vs. Boston.

Vancouver, coming off Sunday’s 5-1 loss to Anaheim, is third in the tight Pacific Division, one point behind Edmonton and Vegas, and one point ahead of Calgary and Arizona.

Curling:

B.C. (Corryn Brown of Kamloops) is 3-2 in Pool B after a 12-5 win this morning (Tuesday) in Draw 9 at the National Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Moose Jaw.

Ontario, Nova Scotia and Wild Card are the co-leaders in Pool B at 3-1.

Manitoba tops Pool A at 4-0 followed by Saskatchewan at 3-1.

The Canadian champion will advance to the World Women’s Curling Championship in Prince George March 14th-22nd.

Canada West Basketball: (UNBC Timberwolves)

The UNBC Timberwolves visit the Calgary Dinos in the Canada West women’s basketball quarterfinals Thursday night (5:00 PT).

The Dinos finished first in the regular season with an 18-2 record, including two convincing victories over UNBC (71-46 and 67-58) on January 3rd and 4th.

The Timberwolves are riding a nine-game winning streak after they eliminated the Lethbridge Pronghorns 93-85 in double overtime on Friday.
