Despite radiothon postponement, Variety moves forward with COVID-19 fundraising

The 16th Annual Variety Radiothon on Country 97FM and 94.3 The GOAT in Prince George, as well as The Valley Goat in Vanderhoof, has been postponed.

Instead, Variety is continuing forward with a fundraising new program: The Heart of Variety: COVID 19 Fund.

“Parents needed help with virtual learning, and that can be anything from speech therapy to occupational therapy in some cases, as well as tutoring and mental health counselling,” said CEO Cally Wesson.

She added that the new program will help address potential concerns about regression in kids who may go weeks or months without necessary supports.

Wesson said that postponing the event was important to allow the organization to solely focus on providing immediate support to families.

“For the past 15 years, Vista Radio has been proud to help raise funds in a great partnership with Variety, The Children’s Charity. It is with mixed emotions that we have made the difficult decision to postpone the 16th Annual Variety Radiothon on Country 97FM and 94.3 The GOAT in Prince George as well as The Valley Goat in Vanderhoof”, said Kyle Wightman of Vista Radio.

“We understand raising funds to support children and their families with special needs never takes a break. Our goal is to support Variety over the next eight weeks with the amazing new program being offered – The Heart Of Variety: COVID 19 Fund. Vista Radio and MyPGNow.com will back our two-day radiothon in the fall of 2020. We want to ensure all residents and businesses in Central BC will have an opportunity to support Variety, The Children’s Charity and know that a rescheduled date will lead to a very successful 16th year”, added Wightman.
