The jobless rate in Prince George climbs to over 10%

The unemployment rate has jumped to 10.1% in Prince George according to April’s Labour Survey from Stats Canada.

The jobless mark has grown by 4.5 percent when compared to the same month last year.

Labour Division Analyst, Vince Ferrao spoke with MyPGNow.com.

“We have 41,900 people working in Prince George during April and that compares with 49,300 in April of last year. Employment fell by 7,400 during this period.”

“We have 17-hundred more people looking for work year-over-year and the unemployment rate increased by over four points to just over ten percent and a year ago, it was 5.7%.”

BC’s unemployment rate is at 11.5%, an increase over just over four points when compared to March of this year.

Over 3-million people in Canada are currently out of work with the national rate now standing at 13%.
