United Way of Northern BC distributes $171,000 for seniors across the region

The United Way of Northern British Columbia has distributed $171,000 to support seniors throughout the region during COVID-19.

The money comes from the 9 million dollars the federal government allocated to United Way Canada under the “New Horizons for Seniors Program” meant to support the most vulnerable seniors affected by the virus.

37 facilities and organizations received funding.

Among those funded in PG:

  • the Native Friendship Centre
  • the Salvation Army
  • Guru Nanak Langar & Garden Society
  • Hart Pioneer Centre Association

“At this time when we are being encouraged to stay home and physically distance, it has become increasingly evident that our seniors need support in this new situation,” said Trista Spencer, the United Way of Northern BC’s Executive Director.
