Ways to #ExploreBCNow this summer

Ways to #ExploreBCNow this summer

For many us, 2020 was going to be the year of exploration or relaxing vacations. Then COVID-19 hit and we were told to stay apart but stay connected. Fast-forward a few months since the March pandemic declaration and we’ve entered phase three of BC’s Restart Plan, which means we have the green light to travel within the province.

If you normally trek across Canada or fly internationally for your summer vacation and are looking for some ideas on how to #ExploreBCNow, here are some ways you can safely be a tourist in Prince George and the rest of BC this summer.

Reconnect with local businesses

Local businesses started reopening with enhanced protocols in place during phase two of the Province’s four stage reopening plan. They’ve worked hard to make sure you feel comfortable with going out for lunch or dinner, sipping a cold brew on a patio, enjoying spa services, or shopping at your favourite store.

So if you feel comfortable heading into businesses, why not plan a day of shopping or golf that’s capped off by a drink on a patio and followed by a delicious dinner at one of our many fabulous local restaurants? Visit the Support PG “Open Now” Directory to plan which businesses you’d like to visit.

Plan an epic outdoor adventure

If you’re not quite ready to venture back into businesses or want to pair a meal out or patio drinks with an outdoor adventure, then your #ExploreBCNow options are endless if you live in Prince George.

There are a wealth of trails in and around the city suited to everyone from casual walkers to extreme hikers. Prefer to be out on the water? Hitch up your boat or grab your kayak, canoe, paddleboard, or floaty and head to one of the 1,600 lakes and rivers within a 100 km radius of the downtown. Book a campsite for the weekend if you’d prefer to relax or head to a recreation site if you’d rather rough it outdoors. If you feel like trying something new, book a guided horseback riding tour with El Shaddai Ranch.

Discover these and more local adventures on the Tourism Prince George website.

Book a Support PG staycation package

Want to take the work out of planning your Prince George staycation? Then you should book a Support PG staycation package.

All packages are affordably priced and feature delicious local food and drink and great stays at Prince George hotels and campgrounds.

More packages are in the works, so keep checking back for additional options!

Explore the rest of British Columbia

If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, you could always plan a trip to another part of the province. BC is vast and beautiful with endless options for exploration. Plan a road trip to discover west coast culture, mountain peaks and the towns near them, the northern wild, vineyards, valleys and lakes, rivers, ranches and ranges, and Vancouver and the Sea to Sky.

If you do plan to venture outside of Prince George and the immediate surrounding area, make sure to know what precautions to take before you go. Some basic ones include travelling within your bubble, bringing supplies with you, continuing to practice good hygiene, and researching your destination before you head out. You can access the full guidelines for travel within BC here.
