A Prince George institution may be forced to close its doors for good.
The Royal Canadian Legion in PG has been operating since 1926 and is looking for some much-needed financial support from the public.
Branch 43 President Margaret Goings told MyPGNow.com they have been denied access to a lot of the provincial and federal funding programs.
“We’re not eligible for it, we applied for the Hydro one and we are not eligible for that, we applied for everything that came out and everything we can think of, we applied for, basically we have been turned down on quite a few of them.”
Goings added losing the facility permanently would be a tough pill to swallow.
“It would be a big blow. We have a lot of members and this will be a big blow to everybody that has anything to do with the legion.”
“We would like to see some new members coming in or some old ones coming in for dinners. We just don’t know what to do because we have heard the possibility of legions closing because of this pandemic.”
She adds COVID 19 has forced them to close its doors and cease regular operations.
“It’s a big worry with all of us right now whether or not we are going to be able to stay open or if we are going to close our doors.”
“We don’t know what we are going to do.”
The monthly costs are around 77-hundred dollars and a GoFundMe page has been set up with a fundraising goal of 20-thousand.
