Tour-de-North adapts to overcome pandemic related obstacles

One of the Canadian Cancer Society’s most unique fundraisers, Cops for Cancer -Tour de North will cover 3 routes this year- Prince Rupert to Prince George, Fort St John to Prince George, and Williams Lake to Prince George- in a relay-style.

“We’re actually expanding the reach of Cops for Cancer which we’re thrilled about as it could be the silver lining for this year,” says Aimee Cassie, Supporter Engagement Manager for Tour-de-North.

The event will be happening from September 14th to 18th, with an altered route adhering to social distancing guidelines.

Cops-for-Cancer is an annual event, first responders from across Northern BC cycle over 850km across the north, engaging in communities on-route.

All of the funding from the ride goes towards pediatric cancer research and Camp Goodtimes, a summer camp for children and their families battling cancer.

“We had to hold camp virtually this year which was a huge success,” adds Cassie, “we were able to reach more kids than in previous years which again is a silver lining.”

Since 1997, the ride has raised over $42 million to fund life-saving pediatric cancer research and support programs.

As of today (Saturday, August 29th), the event has raised $32,542.18 of the $150,000.00 goal.
