Environment Canada reissues special air quality statement for Prince George

Prince George is one of many BC communities seeing poor air quality due to smoke from wildfires burning south of the border.

(Gov BC)

Environment Canada has posted a smoky skies bulletin for the region today (Sept 17), and it will be in effect for the next 24 hours.

Smoke originating from wildfires in the United States will continue to transport over the southern half of the province.

Impacts in the south will be greater in magnitude than the north.

Prince George is currently rated 6 on the air quality health index, meaning at-risk populations are encouraged to reschedule or reduce strenuous activity.

However, there is a risk for intermittent smoke in the Skeena region, and central coast increases later today through tomorrow.

Air quality is expected to begin to improve for all regions over the weekend.

The next bulletin update will be available tomorrow.

The bulletin and map can be accessed online
