Northern Health reports second Covid-19 related death as BC sees 366 cases since Friday

Four people have died from Covid-19 in BC since Friday, marking a new death toll of 227.

Northern Health spokesperson Eryn Collins confirmed to MyPGNow a woman in her 60’s has died from the virus, marking the second death in the region.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says the person was died in hospital after being ill for some time.

11 new infections were also recorded in the region over the weekend, marking a new total of 255.

Across the province, 366 new cases were reported marking a new record high 1987 active infections.

Of the active cases, 60 people are in hospital and 21 people are in intensive care.

“While a provincial election has been called today, B.C.’s COVID-19 response plan will continue uninterrupted. As has been done since the start of the pandemic, a daily COVID-19 update will be provided to keep everyone in B.C. informed,” said Dr. Henry.

“The guidelines include how political parties and their candidates need to keep themselves, their staff and volunteers, and their communities safe during the campaign, as well as how the elections process needs to occur to ensure the safety of everyone.”

There has been one new healthcare outbreak in Vancouver Coastal Health, officials are dealing with 15 provincewide.

The recovery rate is now 72.7 %,
