Fresh pow on the horizon for Hart Highlands Ski Hill

The Hart Highlands Ski Hill hopes to open their doors a little earlier than usual this season following the first snowfall of the year.

“We are hoping for an early December opening this year but we have our fingers crossed that it could be a little earlier,” explained Casey Johnson, Board member of Hart Highlands Ski Hill.

An early opening could be a silver lining for the hill as it’s annual Fall fundraiser has been cancelled and they are now hosting a 50/50 draw to raise funds.

The snow machine is already up and running at the hill, thanks to the recent drop in temperatures in Prince George.

“Since the snowmaking started three years ago, we’ve been having earlier and earlier starts and with this colder weather it looks like it could be one of our earliest starts in a long time,” Johnson added.

Johnson is anticipating a spike in activity on the hill this year, noting that the pandemic has boosted other outdoor activities in Prince George such as hiking and golfing.

To adhere to social distancing guidelines, mask usage is mandatory on the hill as well as in the lodge, which will also look a little different this year as the layout has been altered.

In addition, skiers and snowboarders won’t be as close to one another as they wait in the lift line.

Preseason tickets are now available, which are on sale until the end of the month.
