The show must go on! Theatre NorthWest announces newest stage reading

Theatre NorthWest has announced its newest project, a stage reading of ‘Miracle on 34th Street.’

The show is directed by Judy Russell, who previously worked with the company on ‘The Buddy Holly Story,’ in 2013.

“When I saw what Theatre NorthWest was doing, I knew I wanted to be involved,” said Russell, “the arts are so important for the mental health of the community, and I think we all need something positive to focus on.”

However, Russell explained that presenting a show like Miracle on 34th Street through a stage reading has presented its own set of challenges.

“Normally we are used to delivering something to 3 or 4 thousand people,” explained Russell, “now we only have the ability to have 500 so that’s hard.”

The decision to present this particular show was made by Russell after witnessing the effects COVID-19 had on the Prince George community.

“It’s a very personal, heartwarming story of people you know finding hope and I think that that means a lot to us right now,” she said sympathetically.

The Stage Reading medium has been used by Theatre Northwest for a number of plays this fall as a way for the company to adapt to social distancing guidelines.

Miracle on 34th Street will be presented in December to a fraction of the crowd normally allowed in the audience.

Tickets are now available online.
