On the decline, PG’s jobless rate dips to 9.5% in October

Fewer people found themselves on the unemployment line in BC as well as Prince George.

Stats Canada released its October Labour Force Survey this morning (Friday) where the local jobless rate fell to 9.5% percent, a slight improvement from September where it was 9.9%

However, Labour Division Analyst Vince Ferrao stated we still saw fewer people working compared to a year ago.

“We have 48,700 people working in the three-month average ending in October, a year ago during the same time we had 49,100 people working.”

In BC, the unemployment rate dropped to 8%, a small decline from September’s 8.4 mark.

“Compared to September, we’re seeing employment gains of about 34,000 while a year ago we were down,” added Ferrao.

Nationally, the economy added 84-thousand jobs in October, a sharp drop from the 300-thousand added the previous month.

The unemployment rate dipped to 8.9 a marginal improvement from September where it was an even 9.0%.
