The Chilliwack Chiefs built up period leads of 2-0 and 4-2 and then held on for a 4-3 victory over the hometown Prince George Spruce Kings before 1,076 fans. The Chiefs hold a commanding 3-0 lead in the best of seven BCHL Mainland Division final with game four tonight (Tuesday) at the PG Coliseum. Chilliwack has not trailed at any point in the three games. David Jacobson made 30 saves for the Chiefs, who were outshot 33-29. Jake LeBrun notched a goal and an assist in a losing cause.

–In the BCHL Island Division final, the Powell River Kings doubled the Nanaimo Clippers 2-1. Nanaimo still leads the best of seven series 2-1. The Interior final resumes tonight in Vernon with Penticton ahead 2-0.

–It’s the last week of the WHL regular season. The Prince George Cougars play their final three games against the Blazers: Wednesday and Friday at CN Centre and Saturday in Kamloops. The Cougars are 3rd in the B.C. Division, two points ahead of the Blazers. Kamloops is tied with the Tri-City Americans for the last wild card playoff spot.

–Dale Marquette, who coached the Prince George Spruce Kings and PG Cougars in the mid 1990’s, passed away following complications with diabetes. Marquette was 47.

–The major midget Cariboo Cougars will host the Vancouver Northeast Chiefs in the best of three BCMML playoff final at Kin 1. Games are scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m. Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and Sunday, if needed, at 10 a.m.

–The Prince George based Northern Cougars host the Fraser Valley Phantom in the B.C. Female Midget Triple A Hockey League final. The best of three series at the Kin Centre will be played Saturday at 8:45 a.m. and 5 p.m. and Sunday, if needed at 11:45 a.m.

–Eight teams are participating in the Provincial Peewee Tier 2 minor hockey championship at Kin 1. On opening
day, Cranbrook crushed host Prince George 14-3.

–Meanwhile, Prince George minor hockey rep teams are competing in several B.C. minor hockey championships around the province.

–P.G. is 2-1 at the Midget Tier 1 in Comox Valey. Prince George lost 3-0 to Seafair before scoring a pair of victories; 8-0 over Comox Valley and 11-3 over Northeast.

–P.G. is 0-2 at the Bantam Tier 1 in Rutland as they lost 7-0 to the Burnaby Winter Club and 7-2 to the North Shore Winter Club.

–P.G. is 0-2 at the Bantam Tier 2 in Cranbrook as they fell 10-1 to Vancouver and 9-3 to Campbell River.
Vanderhoof is 1-0-1 at the same Bantam Tier 2 tournament after a 7-7 tie against Cranbrook and a 5-1 victory over Fort St. John.

–P.G. is 0-2 at the Peewee Tier 1 in South Surrey as they were beaten 8-0 by the Burnaby Winter Club & 4-2 by Juan De Fuca.

–P.G. is 0-3 at the Peewee Female in West Vancouver as they lost 9-1 to Kelowna, 7-3 to North Shore and 7-1 to Abbotsford.

–Megan Heinicke of Prince George, the lone Canadian in the field, was 24th in the women’s 12.5-kilometre mass start at the World Biathlon Championships in Kontiolahti, Finland.

–The Hart Judo Academy earned a dozen medals at the Edmonton International Open (in addition to a dozen participation gold medals from its younger competitors).

–The PG Judo Club ended up with one gold (Branden Edwards), one silver (Quinn Clemas) and two bronze
(Sydney Edgson and Ryan Russell) from its 14-plus athletes in Edmonton. The PG Judo Club also grabbed six
gold in the U12 divisions.
