Several Prince George sports, arts and culture groups awarded Community Gaming Grants

Prince George residents can continue to enjoy all that their local arts, culture, and sports organizations have to offer.

Several groups in the northern capital received a helping hand today (Tuesday) after 45-million dollars in Community Gaming Grant funding was announced province-wide.

The Fraser-Fort George Museum Society, which falls under the umbrella of Exploration Place received just over 92-thousand dollars.

Spokesperson, Tracy Calogheros explained to MyPGNow.com where that money will be invested.

“Heritage Fair and our slate of annual festivals that support our Early Explorers pre-school and science alliance as well as some of our outreach programs across Northern BC.”

She added investing in groups like hers is important as we continue to move through the pandemic.

“I think it’s important to recognize that all of the charities that are out in there in the world are struggling right now like everyone else is and when you talk about arts and culture charities oftentimes people look at them as a nice-to-do instead of as a need-to-do and as we come out of this, money is going to be tight at all levels of government.”

“So, trying to amass some funds now that will allow these core community institutions and organizations to not only survive this pandemic but also be there when we are all able to come back together again sometime in the future. We need to make sure that those funds are there now, my colleagues aren’t really worried about making it out of 2020 but when you project to 21, 22, and 23 it gets scary.”
