In a nutshell: As of 12:05 a.m. Friday by Hartley Miller
NFL:
–The slumping Las Vegas Raiders playoff hopes have all but mathematically vanished. QB Justin Herbert scored on a one-yard plunge in overtime to give the Los Angeles Chargers a 30-27 victory over the Raiders. Herbert set an NFL rookie record with his seventh 300-yard game. Las Vegas has dropped four of its last five to slip to 7-7. The 5-9 Chargers snapped a nine-game losing streak against their AFC West counterparts. The Raiders played most of the game without quarterback Derek Carr, who suffered a groin injury in the first quarter. He was replaced by Marcus Mariota.
–Week 15 of the NFL season will continue with a pair of Saturday games: Buffalo at Denver (1:30 PM PT) and Carolina at Green Bay (5:15).
Hockey:
–Henrik Lundqvist has announced he will not play in the upcoming NHL season because of a heart condition. The 38-year-old goalie joined the Washington Capitals just two months ago after spending 15 years with the New York Rangers.
