BC Hydro is reporting a plethora of power outages across Prince George and the central interior region after winds reaching up to 95 kilometres an hour.

31 outages in the area have left about 8800 residents in the dark this afternoon.

The most notable of which is an outage east of Northwood Pulpmill road affecting about 2200 customers.

There is also a large outage affecting 1,449 people near Highway 16 and Tyner.

BC Hydro says crews are attending the calls, most of which have been caused by downed trees or power lines.

Environment Canada attributes the gusty weather to a strong cold front moving through the area this afternoon.

The organization says the winds will continue south of the city towards the Williams Lake and the Cariboo regions later today.

More information will be provided when it becomes available.
