UNBC WBB bring Busic on board as influx of young talent continues

A high-IQ and a steadying force at both ends of the court are what Hanna Busic, the latest UNBC Timberwolves women’s basketball commitment brings to the table.

The Calgary product has trained with the CYDC Panthers Club and is the cousin of current T-Wolf Bella Mesquita.

“I am most looking forward to growing as a player and being a part of a U SPORTS level team. I am excited to work side by side with these high-level athletes. Coach Sergey’s style and approach to training is definitely something I want to be a part of. He is supportive, but expects nothing but the best from his players.”

Busic was listed as a forward in high school, where she played a key role for St. Mary’s on the court but projects to play the wing at the U SPORTS level.

UNBC coach Sergey Shchepotkin has guided his program to four consecutive Canada West playoff appearances but will roster a tremendous number of players in their first year of eligibility next season.

“We are excited to add a player and person like Hanna to our program. She has a real desire to be a Timberwolf and has made a real effort to understand our team and this school. Hanna is well-rounded, gritty, and intelligent at both ends of the court, and I look forward to helping her develop in her time at UNBC.”

The honour roll student will graduate in June, before pursuing physiotherapy at UNBC with a long-term goal of specializing in brain injuries.

She will join her new teammates in August for training camp.
