Northern BC Bubble House prepares for opening

Woodhouse Cottages and Ranch is getting ready for the camping season as they are preparing for a May opening.

The ranch offers a unique Bubble House experience, and despite the pandemic, owner Maureen Woodhouse is expecting a busy season.

“I think it’s definitely an attraction that people are going to seek out, especially with Covid and we’re still not really able to travel and people are looking for things to do differently,” Woodhouse explained.

She says the Tourism and Hospitality sectors were hit incredibly hard due to the pandemic, and her business was no exception, as their national and international guests had to cancel their trips.

However, as BC Health Officials encouraged residents to have ‘staycations’ and word about Woodhouse Ranch and their Bubble House travelled, the local community helped the small business rebound.

“I think now that word is getting out about the bubble house and people are looking for things to do that are close to home because we can’t do much right now, we’re expecting a busy season,” she added.

The Bubble House is a four-room cottage with a transparent roof and as the name suggests, is shaped like a bubble.

As one of the only Bubble Houses in Canada, Woodhouse says, “there’s nothing quite like in Northern BC or even far more reaching than that.”

Woodhouse adds she has hope for BC’s hospitality and tourism sector, especially as BC moves further into the Provincial Immunization Program.

The 600-acre working ranch is located about 20 minutes West of Prince George on the Lower Mud River Road.
