Fifth straight year UNBC named one of Canada’s Greenest Employers

Canada’s Top 100 Employers has again called UNBC one of the Greenest places to work.

Thanks to things like a biomass facility providing 80% of campuses heat, this is the 5th straight year the university has been recognized.

Campus Sustainability Manager Kyrke Gaudreau says he’s incredibly proud to accomplish this again.

“It really shows that the work going across all of campus whether it’s our teaching, our research our operations, we really take pride in the work we do and I think there’s some really fantastic projects taking place taht really exemplify it,” he says.

Some of these projects include a biomass gasification facility that turns local sawmill residue into green energy.

Being green is a school priority, and Gaudreau says the environmental efforts also set a precedent.

“What we’re trying to do as well with this type of work is even in a resource intensive and a resource-based economy you can still promote sustainability and you can still promote very good conservation habits.”

UNBC was also named one of BC Top Employers earlier this year.
