Spruce Kings lay an egg against Chilliwack

A first place showdown was taking place inside the Chilliwack hub.

Unfortunately, the Prince George Spruce Kings didn’t get the memo.

The Chiefs upended PG 2-0 in BCHL action on Thursday at the Chilliwack Coliseum.

Ray Fust opened the scoring at 15:52 of the opening period, sneaking one past Spruce Kings netminder Aaron Trotter for a 1-0 lead.

The Chiefs dominated possession during period one outshooting the Spruce Kings 12-4.

PG showed some signs of life in the middle frame but were unable to solve veteran Chilliwack goaltender Mathieu Caron, keeping it a one goal edge.

In the third, Tanner Andrew sealed the victory for the Chiefs lifting the puck into a yawning cage as Trotter was pulled in favour of the extra-attacker.

The Chiefs outshot PG 29-16.

Both teams went a combined 0-for-8 on the power-play.

A quick turnaround awaits the Spruce Kings (4-3-0-0) as they take on the Merritt Centennials (2-5-0-0) tomorrow (Friday) at 5pm.
