CNC announces launch of new 5-year strategic plan

The College of New Caledonia has announced their 2021-26 Strategic Learning Plan which goes by the name of, ‘Learning Together.’

According to CNC President and CEO, Dr.Dennis Johnson, the plan reflects what the institution heard from its students, faculty members, and stakeholders including First Nations communities.

It focuses on four main goals: learning across a lifetime, student success-focused education and training, organizational strength and agility, and community engagement and partnerships.

“There’s a lot of change happening in society and with the economy, so we all expect that we’ll have to continue to learn, we may want to change professions and learn new skills so the first goal is really about helping the non-traditional student that comes in after high school,” explained Johnson.

He says they will be reimagining curriculums and reconsidering how programs are constructed as well as changing the way the curriculum is delivered to fit more appropriately with the changing times.

“For the third goal, we’re going to focus on things like being well run, Indigenizing the college, working closely to enable employees, and rework on creating diversity and inclusion,” Johnson added.

As part of the plan, CNC will continue to engage with community stakeholders and address many community needs surrounding economic development.

The plan was achieved after a year of engagement that included hundreds of contributions from dozens of meetings and open forums across the region CNC serves.

“Students have a wide range of choices, and career and educational needs continue to advance,” added Johnson, “Those we serve are expecting more of us. It is our job to position CNC for new challenges and opportunities and ensure the students who entrust us with their learning receive the best possible experience.”
