Be fire safe during May long weekend

The Prince George Fire Centre (PGFC) advises residents not to take their foot off the gas when it comes to wildfire safety.

There are currently no campfire restrictions in place but anyone who does start a blaze is asked to properly extinguish it and not leave it unattended.

Campers are advised to carry a shovel and a bucket at all times.

A spokesperson with the BC Wildfire Service told MyPGNow.com the danger rating is expected to rise in the coming days due to the dry conditions being predicted.

So far this year, 218 wildfires within the PGFC have been burned out.

Earlier this week, the province announced traffic restrictions on Omineca forest service roads.

People are asked to report any abandoned fires to 1-800-663-5555 or *5555
