Severe Thunderstorm warning in PG downgraded to watch

The skies may open up once again in Prince George.

According to Environment Canada, the northern capital is currently under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch.

Meteorologist Doug Lundquist spoke with MyPGNow.com.

“It’s that time of year where the sun has so much power and we have a cold front moving through with a lot of instability associated with it and there may be some storms that can give us 10 to 20 millimetres of rain in just a short amount of time or maybe a couple of centimetres of hail.”

He mentioned the wet weather isn’t uncommon for this time of year.

“June is one of the wettest months of the year for us and we kind of count on that to get us through the wildfire season in the summer. Usually, it starts to taper off into a warmer, drier summer right around July 7th.”

The weather office reminds residents that when the thunder roars, to head indoors.
